The Bears did not so much draft Xavier Truss as overpay for him, 39 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. Emmanwori at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The offense got the lion's share of the attention.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Ashton Jeanty at pick No. 10 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Jihaad Campbell in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Circle this one: Nick Emmanwori at No. 41 is a fall that decides a draft. A minor itch, scratched.
Jack Bech at slot 72 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Bhayshul Tuten at the 148th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Carson Vinson in pick 233 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
John Williams at pick 249 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A big swing on Xavier Truss at the 252nd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A need, and now a little less of one.
