The war room fell hard for Jaylen Wright, and it showed at pick 125: 33 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas. It does the job without flash, and the B- reflects it.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The Packers indulged a want in Mustapha while a need in edge rusher, quarterback and other spots stayed open.
Haynes at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
Kamren Kinchens in No. 39 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Ennis Rakestraw Jr. at the Round 2 slot is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 2, Pick 15 is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A straight-up fair deal on T'Vondre Sweat at slot 57, value and slot in agreement. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A tidy bit of business in the 88th overall pick, where Christian Haynes graded well above the range. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Jaylen Wright at the 125th pick is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A surprising call. With edge rusher, quarterback and other spots still to address, they spent the Round 4 slot on Malik Mustapha, a safety they were not short of.
