The move everyone will second-guess came early. The Giants reached some 45 spots for Jaylan Ford, and value like that does not grow back.

The dealing is the wound this class cannot quite close. Drake Maye gives the offense a face and a plan, and the grade leans heavily on whether he hits. They will regret leaving interior defensive lineman for another day if the season turns on it.

They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring.

Bottom line, it will take a lot of luck to make this look better later.
