Washington Commanders

Best value of the weekend goes to the Commanders for Hunter: D.

Boards are made to be trusted, and the Commanders shredded theirs for Trey Zuhn III. He came off 37 spots early, and the room will hear about it.

Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The edge rusher spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. The Hunter pick alone nudges the whole weekend up a notch.

The verdict is not kind, and fairly so; this class has a hill to climb.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.12 · Pick 12 · Mansoor Delane · CB · rank 8
In the Round 1 slot they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
R2.24 · Pick 56 · Dillon Thieneman · S · rank 35
They robbed the room for Dillon Thieneman here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R2.25 · Pick 57 · Emmanuel Pregnon · OG · rank 39
Emmanuel Pregnon at the 57th overall pick is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
R2.28 · Pick 60 · Anthony Hill Jr. · LB · rank 38
They barely believed it either: Anthony Hill Jr. still on the board at pick No. 60. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R3.22 · Pick 86 · Lee Hunter · DT · rank 48
Lee Hunter in pick 86 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
R3.28 · Pick 92 · Logan Jones · C · rank 91
Logan Jones at the 92nd pick is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R4.4 · Pick 104 · Bryce Lance · WR · rank 90
Value with a capital V on Bryce Lance in No. 104, a genuine coup. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R5.7 · Pick 147 · Nate Boerkircher · TE · rank 160
A reach on Nate Boerkircher in slot 147; the board had better options right there. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R6.2 · Pick 183 · Domani Jackson · CB · rank 174
Domani Jackson in the 183rd overall pick is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R6.23 · Pick 204 · VJ Payne · S · rank 194
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing VJ Payne in Round 6, Pick 23. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
R6.28 · Pick 209 · Trey Zuhn III · OT · rank 246
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Trey Zuhn III. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
R7.1 · Pick 217 · Kaelon Black · RB · rank 215
A market-rate running back, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Kaelon Black. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
R7.7 · Pick 223 · Miles Kitselman · TE · rank 223
Miles Kitselman in slot 223 is fair value, right on his grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
