Somebody in Round 6, Pick 35 was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Eagles sat still while Dwight McGlothern, the No. 161 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
Trotter Jr. has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. They went 4 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a disruptor off the edge, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Nice patience on Ennis Rakestraw Jr., who had no business lasting to No. 50. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A premium they did not need to pay, Jeremiah Trotter Jr. a notch or two before his time. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Zak Zinter slid further than he should have, and the Round 4 slot is lovely value for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Tommy Eichenberg at the 161st overall pick is money in the bank, a linebacker taken below his worth. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Taking Christian Jones in pick 171 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Value with a capital V on Tykee Smith in pick No. 172, a genuine coup. It fills a real need, too.
You do not let a cornerback like Dwight McGlothern reach slot 210 and blink. They did not. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
