The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The Packers watched Frank Gore Jr. slide 27 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. A dependable weekend that grades out a B-.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The Packers indulged a want in Bullock while a need in quarterback, wide receiver and other spots stayed open.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 28 they get an island corner at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
No edge and no loss on Edgerrin Cooper in slot 41; it is a wash and a sensible one. A minor itch, scratched.
Javon Bullard in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Hard to square with the roster. With positions of obvious need still on the board, Calen Bullock adds a safety and leaves quarterback, wide receiver and other spots untouched.
They took Marshawn Kneeland at par in the 91st overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
By-the-book stuff, Ben Sinnott at the 127th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A slide stopped in Round 4, Pick 29, with Andru Phillips worth more than the price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid sticker price for Isaiah Davis in pick No. 159, and that is fine. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They robbed the room for Jarrian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylan Ford in Round 6, Pick 41 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A want more than a need, though you can never have too many.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ethan Driskell. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Frank Gore Jr. at the 251st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
