If confidence were a draft strategy, the Chiefs would have aced it. Jalen Sundell at No. 252 is 24 spots clear of where he belonged.
Leaving tight end unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. That Legette pick is the receipt they will wave around later. The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 32 they get an anchor for the offensive line, and a steal at that. The biggest hole, addressed.
A tidy bit of business in the Round 2 slot, where Xavier Legette graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Patrick Paul at the 95th overall pick is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Jarrian Jones in slot 132. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Mason McCormick in Round 5, Pick 23 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Fair-plus on Walter Rouse, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
This one needs a full-page explanation: Jalen Sundell in the 252nd overall pick, miles early. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
