The best pick of the weekend was also the simplest. The 49ers watched Bryce Lance slide 32 picks past his grade and did not hesitate. They moved the roster forward and banked a B+ for it.
The cost of the Heidenreich reach is exactly the players who went right after him. The trade ledger is the best part of the whole weekend. The quarterback hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
Dillon Thieneman at Round 2, Pick 16 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
They liked Malachi Lawrence enough to skip the value, taking him in No. 58. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They paid sticker price for Logan Jones in the 89th overall pick, and that is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A top-tier wide receiver at a bargain, Bryce Lance in slot 122, plain and simple. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Tacario Davis in pick No. 127 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Justin Joly at the 129th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the tight end. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Kevin Coleman Jr. in pick 133 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Kaytron Allen at the Round 4 slot is a clear overpay, with better names still on the board. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Kaleb Elarms-Orr at pick 154 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
By-the-book stuff, Zxavian Harris at the 156th pick squarely in line with his ranking. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A slide stopped in pick No. 209, with Dallen Bentley worth more than the price. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A big swing on Eli Heidenreich at the 211th overall pick, well ahead of any board in the building. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
