Call it a hunch or call it a gamble, but the Cowboys spent pick 213 on Chad Lindberg, a name most had 59 spots down the list. It nets out to a B-, which feels about right.
They will regret leaving wide receiver for another day if the season turns on it. Cornerback is handled and the depth chart looks a good deal healthier for it.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
T'Vondre Sweat in Round 2, Pick 3 is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. The roster fit checks out.
They paid sticker price for Chris Braswell in pick No. 56, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
By-the-book stuff, Trey Benson at the 66th pick squarely in line with his ranking. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
No drama and no debate, Zak Zinter went about where he belonged in the Round 3 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Good price on Kris Abrams-Draine in the 125th overall pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They liked Jaylan Ford enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 173. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Value said wait; Chad Lindberg in slot 213 says they were not listening. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They reached into another round for Xavier Thomas, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
