You build a draft on nights like this. Layden Robinson had no business being available in the 210th overall pick, and the Vikings did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback. On the needs board they went 4 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Add it up and this is about as clean as a draft weekend gets.
Pick-by-Pick
The board had Chris Braswell higher than slot 57, and the edge rusher fell to them anyway. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Value with a capital V on Khyree Jackson in Round 3, Pick 26, a genuine coup. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Bucky Irving in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Leonard Taylor III at the 113th overall pick is the proof. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Matt Goncalves in the 130th pick is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Nice patience on Nehemiah Pritchett, who had no business lasting to pick No. 148. Pure best-available; the position was not exactly begging.
They will replay Chau Smith-Wade at No. 156 for years; that is how good the value is. Stacking talent where they were already deep.
They robbed the room for Jarrian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
A linebacker of that caliber at the 179th overall pick is the definition of value, full stop. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Somehow Mason McCormick was still sitting there in slot 190, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
You do not let an offensive lineman like Caedan Wallace reach the Round 6 slot and blink. They did not. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Circle this one: Layden Robinson at pick 210 is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Curtis Jacobs all the way to the 220th pick, and they scooped it up. A luxury on a unit that was already in good shape.
