2024 NFL Draft
· 12 picks
· 3 steals
· 2 reaches
The search is over. The Patriots handed the keys to Drake Maye, and the whole operation now runs on his development.
A whole weekend of picks and interior defensive lineman is somehow still a want. Whatever else happened, they won the night they took Murphy.
They will need DeLoach to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th pick they get their quarterback of the future at fair value.
Keon Coleman in slot 34 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in the 38th overall pick, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Kingsley Suamataia in the Round 3 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Austin Booker at pick No. 76 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Khyree Jackson is a better player than No. 103 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Value with a capital V on Gabriel Murphy in Round 4, Pick 6, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They took Trevor Keegan at par in pick 137, which is nothing to complain about. It fills a real need, too.
Tanor Bortolini at slot 180 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No drama and no debate, Joe Milton III went about where he belonged in pick No. 193. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
By-the-book stuff, Frank Gore Jr. at pick 226 squarely in line with his ranking. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A conviction pick on Kalen DeLoach at the 231st overall pick that the board grades a round light. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
