The Patriots ran the phones like sharks, prying loose value on deal after deal until the ledger was lopsided. One of the weekend's best, top to bottom, and a A- to show for it.
They banked enough surplus on Edwards to cover a lot of smaller sins. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Patriots indulged a want in Hart while a need in edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots stayed open. The Milton III reach is the anchor dragging on the value grade.
Add it up and few war rooms did better this weekend, Terrion Arnold and all.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 26th pick they get a potential shutdown corner. More want than need.
They paid sticker price for Ja'Tavion Sanders in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Patrick Paul in the 68th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
A curious use of pick 102. Edge rusher, wide receiver and other spots needed the pick; a cornerback in Cam Hart did not.
A reach for Fabien Lovett in Round 4, Pick 36; a little patience would have been rewarded. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Joe Milton III at No. 180 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They will replay Daijun Edwards at No. 231 for years; that is how good the value is. A need, and now a little less of one.
