Start where it matters. The Patriots took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one.
Coker has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. For all the activity, edge rusher went untouched, which is hard to explain. They banked enough surplus on Newton to cover a lot of smaller sins.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 3rd overall pick they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
No edge and no loss on Keon Coleman in slot 34; it is a wash and a sensible one. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A straight-up fair deal on Patrick Paul at Round 3, Pick 4, value and slot in agreement. The roster fit checks out.
Will Shipley in the 104th pick is fair value, right on his grade. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
The board had Josh Newton higher than pick 136, and the cornerback fell to them anyway. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They took Jordan Jefferson at par in No. 182, which is nothing to complain about. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Jalen Coker this early at the Round 7 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
