Somehow the biggest item on the list survived the weekend. The Patriots never addressed interior defensive lineman, and it is the kind of gap that lingers. It nets out to a B+, which feels about right.
They banked enough surplus on Hadden to cover a lot of smaller sins. Small wins on the phones, but wins all the same. On the needs board they went 6 of 8, with edge rusher the one that mattered most.
Joey Bosa gives the group a proven body among the projects.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 3 they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A straight-up fair deal on Austin Booker at the 68th overall pick, value and slot in agreement. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for Will Shipley in slot 104, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Johnny Wilson in the Round 4 slot is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Good things come to war rooms that wait, and Kamal Hadden at pick 182 is the proof. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A tidy bit of business in No. 183, where Walter Rouse graded well above the range. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They let Josh Proctor come to them and pounced at Round 7, Pick 9. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
