The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Patriots spent their marquee pick on Jayden Daniels, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up. They will answer for taking cornerback early while edge rusher and tight end went begging.
The Jones pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over. Thomas Jr. at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 6 they get the arm they will build around at fair value. A real need, handled.
Brian Thomas Jr. at the 34th overall pick is money in the bank, a wide receiver taken below his worth. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No drama and no debate, Jordan Morgan went about where he belonged in No. 39. It fills a real need, too.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Braden Fiske. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
They paid sticker price for Mike Sainristil in pick No. 68, and that is fine. A minor itch, scratched.
Will Shipley in Round 4, Pick 4 is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Renardo Green in the 108th pick is exactly on the number, no argument either way. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
The eyebrow-raiser of the weekend. They went cornerback with Jarrian Jones while clear needs at edge rusher and tight end sat open.
Tahj Washington at slot 182 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Andrew Raym at par in pick No. 229, which is nothing to complain about. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
