There is reaching, and then there is Joe Milton III at slot 150. The Patriots jumped the board by 49 and dared it to prove them wrong. Call it a sensible B, earned the boring way.
The Legette steal is the beam this whole class leans on. The interior defensive lineman hole is the one line item this class does not answer.
The dealing tilted against them, just enough to notice. Edge rusher was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
Rome Odunze in the 8th pick is fair value, right on his grade. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A market-rate tight end, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Ja'Tavion Sanders. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jordan Morgan at pick 38 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the offensive lineman. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
By-the-book stuff, Bralen Trice at pick No. 68 squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
The board fumbled Xavier Legette all the way to Round 4, Pick 4, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They read the board right and Johnny Wilson was the payoff at the Round 4 slot. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Joe Milton III at the 150th overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
A tidy bit of business in pick No. 229, where Josh Proctor graded well above the range. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
