Call it belief, call it a gut call, but Joe Milton III at pick No. 136 is 63 spots clear of consensus, and that is the headline. A near-flawless weekend of work, and a A- to cap it.
Getting Jones where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. Every deal seemed to tilt their way, which is not luck. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
Bottom line, they left the weekend a clearly better team, and they earned every bit of it.
Pick-by-Pick
Brian Thomas Jr. in pick 27 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
In the 30th overall pick they get a red-zone target to build around. A clean fit for the roster.
Braden Fiske at the Round 2 slot is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They did well to land Kingsley Suamataia in slot 62, just ahead of his grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A clean, defensible pick in No. 68 with a little surplus value in Christian Haynes. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Trey Benson in Round 3, Pick 30 is fair value, right on his grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They went early on Renardo Green in the 104th overall pick, and the value did not follow. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Joe Milton III in pick No. 136 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. It fills a real need, too.
They robbed the room for Jarrian Jones here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Josh Proctor is a better player than Round 7, Pick 9 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
