Thirty-one other rooms let Luke McCaffrey slide, and the Eagles were the ones holding the card at the 243rd pick. Highway robbery.
Overpaying at the table undid a lot of the good work elsewhere. The Colson pick reads as want over need, and the roster will feel it at interior defensive lineman.
They punted on interior defensive lineman, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, they will need several of these picks to beat their grades just to break even, and interior defensive lineman is still a hole.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 28th pick they get an anchor for the offensive line, outstanding value to boot.
Kamari Lassiter in No. 50 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Ladd McConkey all the way to the 55th overall pick, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Troy Franklin in the Round 2 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Edgerrin Cooper at Round 3, Pick 1 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. A minor need, but a need all the same.
A curious use of pick No. 80. Interior defensive lineman needed the pick; a linebacker in Junior Colson did not.
Cooper Beebe slipping to slot 86 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The roster fit checks out.
