Every so often the board makes a mistake, and the Cowboys were there to profit. Cam Skattebo, the No. 105 name on the board, should have been long gone before No. 249. The bottom line is a respectable B.
A whole weekend of picks and tight end is somehow still a want. On the needs board they went 7 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but tight end.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a home-run threat at receiver at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
The board fumbled Ashton Jeanty all the way to the 44th pick, and they scooped it up. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A top-tier interior defensive lineman at a bargain, Mason Graham in the Round 3 slot, plain and simple. It fills a real need, too.
They will replay Luke Kandra at slot 150 for years; that is how good the value is. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jalen Milroe in No. 170 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jay Higgins at pick No. 172 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
They robbed the room for Mello Dotson here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Somehow Rylie Mills was still sitting there in Round 6, Pick 12, and they pounced on premier interior defensive lineman value. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Jaylin Noel at Round 6, Pick 33 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They barely believed it either: Cam Skattebo still on the board at the 249th overall pick. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
