Somewhere a scout is still blinking. The Bills spent the 182nd overall pick on Patrick Payton, a name the board had a full 65 spots lower.
Getting Caldwell where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through offensive lineman.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 27th pick they get a sideline-to-sideline linebacker at fair value. Exactly the need they had to hit.
The board screamed and they did not listen, reaching into the next round for Gracen Halton. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached into another round for George Gumbs Jr., and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Ephesians Prysock at pick 165 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. A minor need, but a need all the same.
VJ Payne in slot 168 is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
