Thirty-one other rooms let Tory Horton slide, and the Bills were the ones holding the card at the 175th overall pick. Highway robbery.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. It is a bet on later, and a defensible one for a team playing the long game.
Bottom line, with Jonah Savaiinaea leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
Value with a capital V on Jonah Savaiinaea in pick No. 56, a genuine coup. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Xavier Watts at the 59th pick is money in the bank, a safety taken below his worth. A need, and now a little less of one.
Jihaad Campbell in pick 62 should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Tez Johnson at Round 4, Pick 7 is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Shemar Turner in the Round 4 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A reach for Mello Dotson in slot 131; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
They robbed the room for Jordan James here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Tory Horton at No. 175 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
A quiet steal in the 179th pick: Damien Martinez for less than the market said. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Nick Nash was still sitting there in No. 206, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
