When a board-topper like Lander Barton slides to pick 175, you do not overthink it, and the Bills did not. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
For all the activity, quarterback went untouched, which is hard to explain. The cost of the West reach is exactly the players who went right after him.
Linebacker was the priority and it is no longer a question, which is most of the job. They trusted the board more than the depth chart.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get a problem off the edge, outstanding value to boot. A real need, handled.
A quiet steal in Round 2, Pick 24: Tre Harris for less than the market said. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Isaiah Bond at pick No. 62 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
The board fumbled Tate Ratledge all the way to pick 108, and they scooped it up. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Kevin Winston Jr. at the Round 4 slot is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A need, and now a little less of one.
They read the board right and Earnest Greene III was the payoff at slot 171. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Lander Barton in the 175th pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Xavier Scott slid further than he should have, and No. 179 is lovely value for the cornerback. A minor need, but a need all the same.
You do not let an interior defensive lineman like Simeon Barrow Jr. reach the 206th overall pick and blink. They did not. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They paid up for CJ West at the Round 6 slot when waiting would have done the job. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
