The Eagles did not so much draft Hudson Card as overpay for him, 130 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend.
Walker falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They punted on cornerback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Nothing here to lose sleep over, and plenty to feel decent about.
Pick-by-Pick
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at the 51st overall pick, value and slot in agreement. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate interior defensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Leonard Taylor III. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A tidy little value on Ladd McConkey in the Round 2 slot, a step better than break-even. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They paid sticker price for Payton Wilson in pick 97, and that is fine. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Graham Barton in No. 101 is fair value, right on his grade. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
No edge and no loss on Darius Robinson in the 138th pick; it is a wash and a sensible one. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Malachi Moore in No. 147 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Somehow Devontez Walker was still sitting there in the Round 5 slot, and they pounced on premier wide receiver value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
No drama and no debate, Bryson Nesbit went about where he belonged in the 206th pick. It fills a real need, too.
Hudson Card at pick No. 250 is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
