You build a draft on nights like this. Isaiah Adams had no business being available in the 161st overall pick, and the Eagles did the only sane thing and turned in the card.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up. Hopper has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced. They went 5 of 9 on their needs, which is most of what a draft is for.
The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 22 they get a press-man option on the boundary. Exactly the need they had to hit.
Kris Jenkins at the 50th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
No edge and no loss on Xavier Worthy in pick No. 53; it is a wash and a sensible one. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They paid sticker price for James Williams in Round 4, Pick 20, and that is fine. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They barely believed it either: Isaiah Adams still on the board at the 161st pick. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
The board had cheaper options than Ty'Ron Hopper at pick 171, and it noticed. A minor itch, scratched.
Dwight McGlothern slid further than he should have, and the Round 5 slot is lovely value for the cornerback. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Value with a capital V on Curtis Jacobs in slot 210, a genuine coup. They added to a strength when a need was still open elsewhere.
