You could see the war room lean forward. Harold Perkins Jr. at Round 7, Pick 21 is the sort of fall that does not happen, except it just did.
A whole weekend of picks and edge rusher is somehow still a want. The cost of the Johnson reach is exactly the players who went right after him. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a plug-and-play piece up front. A clean fit for the roster.
Nice patience on Jalon Walker, who had no business lasting to pick No. 39. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Colston Loveland at the 70th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in the 80th overall pick with a little surplus value in Malachi Moore. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A premium they did not need to pay, Tez Johnson a notch or two before his time. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Quinshon Judkins in pick 141 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Steal is underselling it; Bryce Foster at No. 221 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They paid sticker price for Clay Webb in slot 223, and that is fine. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A linebacker of that caliber at pick 235 is the definition of value, full stop. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
