The war room fell hard for Nick Martin, and it showed at pick 222: 49 picks ahead of a board that had other ideas.

The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. However the rest shakes out, Nash at that price is a win they earned. That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall.

Trust the process, because this time the process plainly worked.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.20 · Pick 20 · Colston Loveland · TE · rank 22
In slot 20 they get a seam-stretching tight end. A clean fit for the roster.
R2.6 · Pick 38 · Malaki Starks · S · rank 26
Malaki Starks at Round 2, Pick 6 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
R2.17 · Pick 49 · Aireontae Ersery · OT · rank 47
Aireontae Ersery in pick No. 49 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
R2.30 · Pick 62 · Deone Walker · DT · rank 67
They paid sticker price for Deone Walker in the 62nd overall pick, and that is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Xavier Restrepo · WR · rank 66
A reasonable price with a little left over, Xavier Restrepo in No. 69. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
R3.13 · Pick 77 · Donovan Jackson · OT · rank 86
Donovan Jackson in the Round 3 slot is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
R3.14 · Pick 78 · Jayden Higgins · WR · rank 73
Fair-plus on Jayden Higgins, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R4.4 · Pick 105 · Denzel Burke · CB · rank 89
A tidy bit of business in the Round 4 slot, where Denzel Burke graded well above the range. It adds depth where they could use a little.
R5.6 · Pick 145 · Emery Jones Jr. · OT · rank 128
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Emery Jones Jr. in Round 5, Pick 6. It fills a real need, too.
R5.36 · Pick 175 · Nick Nash · WR · rank 155
Nick Nash at the 175th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R7.1 · Pick 219 · Donovan Edwards · RB · rank 260
They left a pile of value on the table to take Donovan Edwards this early at slot 219. The roster fit checks out.
R7.4 · Pick 222 · Nick Martin · LB · rank 271
This one needs a full-page explanation: Nick Martin in the 222nd pick, miles early. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
R7.22 · Pick 240 · Jake Briningstool · TE · rank 248
They liked Jake Briningstool enough to skip the value, taking him in pick No. 240. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
