The one hole that towered over the rest is filled. The Commanders spent their marquee pick on Caleb Williams, and for the first time in a while there is a real answer at quarterback. Good, not great, and the B says as much.
Torrence falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch. They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped edge rusher, which is a strange place to end up.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 2 they get their guy under center for the next decade at fair value.
Jordan Morgan at the 36th overall pick is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They did well to land Ja'Tavion Sanders in pick 40, just ahead of his grade. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
A straight-up fair deal on Jeremiah Trotter Jr. at Round 3, Pick 3, value and slot in agreement. A minor need, but a need all the same.
Cade Stover slid further than he should have, and the 82nd pick is lovely value for the tight end. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They read the board right and Dadrion Taylor-Demerson was the payoff at pick No. 100. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Taking MarShawn Lloyd in the Round 4 slot is close to grand larceny; a running back that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
A slide stopped in slot 139, with Sataoa Laumea worth more than the price. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Fair-plus on Luke McCaffrey, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They will replay Ro Torrence at the 222nd pick for years; that is how good the value is. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
