They will call it conviction in the building and a reach everywhere else: Thor Griffith, 31 picks early at pick 160. The bottom line is a respectable B.
The quarterback spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. However the rest shakes out, Ersery at that price is a win they earned.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
Fair-plus on Ashton Gillotte, a quiet win that adds up over a draft. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Oscar Delp in No. 64 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
By-the-book stuff, Tre Harris at the 69th pick squarely in line with his ranking. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They paid up for Wyatt Milum at Round 3, Pick 32 when waiting would have done the job. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
They let Aireontae Ersery come to them and pounced at the Round 4 slot. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
A premium they did not need to pay, DJ Campbell a notch or two before his time. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They reached a country mile for Thor Griffith at pick No. 160, and the board is aghast. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A big swing on Dylan Fairchild at the Round 7 slot, well ahead of any board in the building. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A swing that ignored the value entirely, Miles Frazier well ahead of where he belonged. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Bru McCoy in Round 7, Pick 32 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
