You build a draft on nights like this. Rylie Mills had no business being available in slot 224, and the Chiefs did the only sane thing and turned in the card. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They covered a lot of ground and still skipped quarterback, which is a strange place to end up. The roster is better shaped than it was, with wide receiver chief among the fixes. Value over need was the throughline, for better and worse.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the quarterback spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 32 they get a difference-maker at receiver, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Maxwell Hairston slid further than he should have, and the 64th overall pick is lovely value for the cornerback. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Malaki Starks at pick No. 69 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. A minor need, but a need all the same.
They robbed the room for Ashton Gillotte here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They barely believed it either: Oscar Delp still on the board at the Round 4 slot. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
The board fumbled Tre Harris all the way to pick 160, and they scooped it up. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Circle this one: Wyatt Milum at the 193rd pick is a fall that decides a draft. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Rylie Mills in No. 224 is close to grand larceny; an interior defensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. It fills a real need, too.
