Start where it matters. The Commanders took Jayden Daniels to run the offense for the next decade, and every other decision this weekend bends around that one. No fireworks, but a solid B-.
McGlothern at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through edge rusher.
Williams has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
Good work on the whole, with edge rusher the one box left unchecked.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 5th overall pick they get their guy under center for the next decade. A clean fit for the roster.
A tidy bit of business in No. 36, where Brian Thomas Jr. graded well above the range. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
They paid sticker price for T'Vondre Sweat in the Round 2 slot, and that is fine. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
A clean, defensible pick in Round 3, Pick 3 with a little surplus value in Kingsley Suamataia. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Cade Stover in the 78th pick. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Khyree Jackson in pick No. 100 is fine work, a shade of surplus and no downside. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
James Williams at slot 106 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Will Shipley at pick 112 is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Beau Brade at pick No. 139 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
The board fumbled Dwight McGlothern all the way to No. 201, and they scooped it up. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Nathan Thomas at par in the 222nd overall pick, which is nothing to complain about. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
