The board owed the Cowboys one, and it paid up: Ro Torrence, the No. 180 name on the board, sitting there at pick No. 233 like a gift left on the doorstep. Solid and sensible more than spectacular: a B.
A whole weekend of picks and wide receiver is somehow still a want. If Lovett pans out, nobody remembers the price. If not, this is the pick they hear about. The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
The trenches got the money picks, top to bottom.
In sum, a sturdy weekend with one asterisk, the wide receiver spot they never got to.
Pick-by-Pick
In No. 24 they get a long-term starter on the line. The biggest hole, addressed.
Value with a capital V on Cooper Beebe in pick No. 56, a genuine coup. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Trey Benson in the 87th pick is fair value, right on his grade. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Fabien Lovett at the 174th overall pick is a conviction pick that outran the value. The roster fit checks out.
The board had Steele Chambers higher than slot 216, and the linebacker fell to them anyway. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ro Torrence at Round 7, Pick 13 is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tatum Bethune in the Round 7 slot. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
