There is reaching, and then there is Wesley Williams at the 250th pick. The Ravens jumped the board by 62 and dared it to prove them wrong. A dependable weekend that grades out a B.
That is an offensive lineman worth more than the slot they spent on him, plainly. A whole weekend of picks and running back is somehow still a want.
They squeezed a little extra out of every move they made. They left with cornerback solved and the rest of the wish list mostly ticked off.
Bottom line, more hits than misses and a roster nudged the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 23 they get a plug-and-play piece up front. The biggest hole, addressed.
In slot 26 they get an anchor for the offensive line at fair value. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A conviction pick on Derrick Moore at the 49th pick that the board grades a round light. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
A top-tier cornerback at a bargain, D'Angelo Ponds in No. 69, plain and simple. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Malachi Fields at the 101st overall pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A offensive lineman of that caliber at pick No. 118 is the definition of value, full stop. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tim Keenan III slid further than he should have, and Round 5, Pick 22 is lovely value for the interior defensive lineman. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jeff Caldwell. It fills a real need, too.
Logan Fano at the 211th pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They left a pile of value on the table to take Wesley Williams this early at slot 250. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
