Nobody else had Nyjalik Kelly anywhere near the 162nd overall pick. The Ravens did, by 45 spots, and that gap is the whole story. They moved the roster forward and banked a B for it.
That Lew pick is the receipt they will wave around later. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through quarterback.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a building block for the line at fair value. The biggest hole, addressed.
Brandon Cisse slid further than he should have, and slot 45 is lovely value for the cornerback. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
You do not let a wide receiver like Zachariah Branch reach Round 3, Pick 16 and blink. They did not. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Connor Lew at the 115th pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
Nothing to complain about; Skyler Gill-Howard went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Nyjalik Kelly at the 162nd overall pick is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Demond Claiborne in No. 173. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Value with a capital V on Nate Boerkircher in Round 5, Pick 34, a genuine coup. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
