Nobody else had Tyler Batty anywhere near pick 149. The Cowboys did, by 232 spots, and that gap is the whole story. It lands right in the middle: a C-, no more, no less.
Foster at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. Leaving wide receiver unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall. The weekend tilted hard toward the defense.
Hit on Lander Barton and the swing picks, and this ages a lot better than it grades today.
Pick-by-Pick
Lander Barton at the Round 1 slot is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Howard Cross III at the 42nd overall pick is a steep price for a hunch, hard to square with any board. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They read the board right and Dylan Fairchild was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 9. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
