Nobody had CJ Dippre this high, and it is not close. The Cowboys reached 98 spots to get him at Round 7, Pick 40.
Landing Moore that late papers over a lot of smaller sins. The whole projection now runs through Shedeur Sanders; hit there and everything else looks smarter.
The trade table is where this weekend went wrong. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped linebacker, which is a strange place to end up.
A rough weekend that leaves the roster with more questions than answers.
Pick-by-Pick
In slot 11 they get their quarterback of the future. A real need, handled.
Nothing to complain about; Will Campbell went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
In the 20th overall pick they get a load in the middle at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
Ollie Gordon II at Round 2, Pick 5 is a conviction pick that outran the value. It fills a real need, too.
Colston Loveland at No. 42 is the pick scouts circle, and not in a good way. A need, and now a little less of one.
Tyleik Williams at pick No. 51 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Jordan Hancock in slot 59 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Bear Alexander in the Round 2 slot. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
They read the board right and Aireontae Ersery was the payoff at Round 3, Pick 17. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Carson Beck at the 94th overall pick is a first-round grade at a bargain-bin price, no notes. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
This one needs a full-page explanation: DeMonte Capehart in pick No. 99, miles early. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They liked Julian Fleming enough to skip the value, taking him in pick 117. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A safety of that caliber at the 153rd pick is the definition of value, full stop. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
Armand Membou at No. 155 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They barely believed it either: Quinshon Judkins still on the board at pick No. 164. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Logan Brown in pick 169; it is a wash and a sensible one. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Somehow Malachi Moore was still sitting there in slot 170, and they pounced on premier safety value. Insurance at a position that did not really ask for it.
The board fumbled Mansoor Delane all the way to No. 171, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Antonio Williams in Round 6, Pick 5 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Steal is underselling it; Tez Johnson at the 189th pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Quinn Carroll slipping to the Round 6 slot is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Oronde Gadsden II in the 224th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
They robbed the room for De'Corian Clark here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Zane Durant in the 245th pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
They paid up for Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson at Round 7, Pick 33 when waiting would have done the job. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
They left a pile of value on the table to take CJ Dippre this early at the 254th overall pick. The roster fit checks out.
