Call it larceny. Terrance Ferguson sat on the board until pick 167, and the Texans did not need to be asked twice.
That edge rusher hole did not close this weekend, and it was the biggest one on the wall. They will need Ratledge to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
In the Round 1 slot they get a No. 1 receiver, outstanding value to boot. Exactly the need they had to hit.
They went early on Tate Ratledge in pick No. 58, and the value did not follow. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Maxwell Hairston in the 89th overall pick. It adds depth where they could use a little.
Brashard Smith at No. 127 is the sort of value that quietly wins a weekend. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Taking Terrance Ferguson in slot 167 is close to grand larceny; a tight end that good had no business lasting this long. The roster fit checks out.
Somehow Jonas Sanker was still sitting there in pick 243, and they pounced on premier safety value. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
