Somewhere a general manager is explaining how Tacario Davis got past him. The Browns do not have to explain a thing at pick No. 146. A sturdy weekend that grades out a B.
They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. The Bissainthe pick is the one the value grade keeps tripping over.
In sum, a sensible class that nudges the roster the right way.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 24 they get a true top target, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
In the 28th pick they get a cornerstone up front. A real need, handled.
Chris Brazzell II slid further than he should have, and the 38th overall pick is lovely value for the wide receiver. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
No drama and no debate, Emmanuel Pregnon went about where he belonged in No. 39. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
A straight-up fair deal on Malachi Fields at the Round 3 slot, value and slot in agreement. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Zakee Wheatley in pick No. 107 is a gift, value that borders on unfair. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Taking Tacario Davis in slot 146 is close to grand larceny; a cornerback that good had no business lasting this long. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Michael Trigg in pick 149 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Matt Gulbin at slot 206 is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
A reach on Wesley Bissainthe in the 248th pick; the board had better options right there. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
