The Patriots clearly saw something nobody else did in Dallin Holker, taking him 54 picks ahead of his grade. The board is not convinced. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. Leaving interior defensive lineman unaddressed is the roster risk they will have to answer for in the fall.
Tracy Jr. falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
A competent weekend that does not make headlines and does not need to.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 6 they get a cornerstone up front at fair value. A real need, handled.
Good price on Bo Nix in the 34th pick, a hair ahead of his grade with no real quibbles. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
They took Bralen Trice at par in pick 68, which is nothing to complain about. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 69 with a little surplus value in Max Melton. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Dallin Holker in the 104th overall pick is a bet on their own eyes over everyone else's grade. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Tyrone Tracy Jr. in the Round 4 slot. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
Jha'Quan Jackson at the 182nd pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Value with a capital V on Garret Greenfield in slot 229, a genuine coup. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
