When a board-topper like Daijun Edwards slides to the 225th overall pick, you do not overthink it, and the Chargers did not.
They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own. If this class has a fault line, it runs straight through cornerback. Reed has a lot of ground to make up just to look fairly priced.
In short, they turned a good board into a better roster, and it shows.
Pick-by-Pick
Chop Robinson in the 19th overall pick is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
They let Troy Fautanu come to them and pounced at pick No. 37. It fills a real need, too.
Braden Fiske at slot 52 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Circle this one: Jermaine Burton at pick 69 is a fall that decides a draft. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Cedric Gray at No. 105 is a conviction pick that outran the value. A quiet depth add at a thin-ish spot.
Ray Davis at Round 4, Pick 10 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
No edge and no loss on Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 5 slot; it is a wash and a sensible one. They doubled down on a strength rather than a need.
A market-rate wide receiver, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Jha'Quan Jackson. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
A running back of that caliber at pick 225 is the definition of value, full stop. The roster fit checks out.
They reached into another round for Austin Reed, and the board is nowhere close to agreeing. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
