The Nate Wiggins selection is the head-turner. The Chargers reached 23 spots for him, and it will define how this weekend is remembered.
Singer at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster. The interior defensive lineman spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th overall pick they get a press-man option on the boundary, though the board says they badly overpaid. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
A straight-up fair deal on Kris Jenkins at pick 49, value and slot in agreement. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
Braelon Allen in the Round 3 slot is exactly on the number, no argument either way. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
They took Javion Cohen at par in the 112th pick, which is nothing to complain about. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Cedric Gray at pick No. 149 is right where the board had him, plain and simple. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A reach for Ben Bywater in Round 6, Pick 15; a little patience would have been rewarded. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
They barely believed it either: Dorian Singer still on the board at Round 7, Pick 13. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
No edge and no loss on Jaxson Dart in pick No. 238; it is a wash and a sensible one. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
