The phones were a trap the Chargers kept walking into, shipping out surplus on nearly every deal. More right than wrong, and a B- to match.
On value alone, Proctor makes the weekend a net positive. They covered a lot of ground and still skipped interior defensive lineman, which is a strange place to end up.
They will need Shipley to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but interior defensive lineman.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 22 they get a double-digit-sack hope. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
By-the-book stuff, Adonai Mitchell at the 37th overall pick squarely in line with his ranking. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Quietly one of the better values of the day, Josh Newton at pick No. 69. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
Will Shipley in pick 105 is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
A reasonable price with a little left over, Beaux Limmer in the 142nd pick. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They took JD Bertrand at par in the Round 6 slot, which is nothing to complain about. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
Nice patience on Josh Proctor, who had no business lasting to slot 200. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
Joshua Cephus at No. 226 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
