The Chargers did not so much draft Carter Bradley as overpay for him, 95 picks clear of his grade. It sets an uneasy tone for the weekend. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B.
The dealing alone would carry a lesser class. They will regret leaving edge rusher for another day if the season turns on it.
All told, a draft that does its job without fuss, and there is real value in that.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 7th overall pick they get a seam-stretching tight end at fair value. A clean fit for the roster.
They paid a round early for Jackson Powers-Johnson in Round 2, Pick 5, more than the board wanted. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
T'Vondre Sweat at the Round 2 slot is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A market-rate offensive lineman, with the board and the slot shaking hands on Cooper Beebe. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
They took Leonard Taylor III at par in No. 106, which is nothing to complain about. It answers the question that was keeping the coaches up at night.
A reach on Renardo Green in pick 139; the board had better options right there. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
A big swing on AJ Barner at the 183rd pick, well ahead of any board in the building. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Isaac Guerendo at Round 7, Pick 3 is the kind of overdraft that needs everything to break right. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Carter Bradley in the 256th overall pick is a reach so steep the board needed a second look to believe it. A need, and now a little less of one.
