Los Angeles Chargers

The steal of the weekend belongs to the Chargers and Hart: A-.

You build a draft on nights like this. Cam Hart had no business being available in pick No. 253, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.

The cost of the Tagovailoa reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.

They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.

Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.

Pick-by-Pick

R1.25 · Pick 25 · JC Latham · OT · rank 15
In the 25th overall pick they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
R2.5 · Pick 37 · Cooper DeJean · CB · rank 26
Cooper DeJean slipping to pick No. 37 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
R2.9 · Pick 41 · Roman Wilson · WR · rank 46
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in slot 41. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
R3.5 · Pick 69 · Kool-Aid McKinstry · CB · rank 23
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 69th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
R3.18 · Pick 82 · Cade Stover · TE · rank 74
They let Cade Stover come to them and pounced at No. 82. The roster fit checks out.
R4.5 · Pick 105 · Jalen McMillan · WR · rank 99
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Jalen McMillan. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
R4.10 · Pick 110 · Braelon Allen · RB · rank 106
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 10 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
R4.17 · Pick 117 · Christian Mahogany · OG · rank 98
Taking Christian Mahogany in pick 117 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
R4.26 · Pick 126 · Leonard Taylor III · DL · rank 110
Value with a capital V on Leonard Taylor III in pick 126, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
R5.4 · Pick 140 · Tommy Eichenberg · LB · rank 145
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
R6.6 · Pick 181 · Audric Estime · RB · rank 103
They robbed the room for Audric Estime here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
R7.5 · Pick 225 · Taulia Tagovailoa · QB · rank 288
Taulia Tagovailoa at Round 7, Pick 5 is an overdraft of the loud, memorable kind. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
R7.33 · Pick 253 · Cam Hart · CB · rank 100
Steal is underselling it; Cam Hart at slot 253 is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
