You build a draft on nights like this. Cam Hart had no business being available in pick No. 253, and the Chargers did the only sane thing and turned in the card. They executed a plan and it shows in the A-.
The cost of the Tagovailoa reach is exactly the players who went right after him. They robbed the room blind at the table, and it lifts the grade on its own.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest.
Bottom line, they did the job about as well as it can be done.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 25th overall pick they get a blindside protector at a price that makes it sweeter. A real need, handled.
Cooper DeJean slipping to pick No. 37 is the kind of luck good rooms make for themselves. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
No drama and no debate, Roman Wilson went about where he belonged in slot 41. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 69th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
They let Cade Stover come to them and pounced at No. 82. The roster fit checks out.
A clean, defensible pick in the Round 4 slot with a little surplus value in Jalen McMillan. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Braelon Allen in Round 4, Pick 10 lands just on the right side of the ledger. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Taking Christian Mahogany in pick 117 is close to grand larceny; an offensive lineman that good had no business lasting this long. A real hole, addressed with a reasonable pick.
Value with a capital V on Leonard Taylor III in pick 126, a genuine coup. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They paid sticker price for Tommy Eichenberg in the Round 5 slot, and that is fine. Useful depth more than a marquee fix.
