The Commanders spent the pick that matters most on Caleb Williams, and a roster that has been waiting on a passer can start to take shape. It does the job without flash, and the B reflects it.
The Davis steal is the beam this whole class leans on. For all the activity, cornerback went untouched, which is hard to explain.
A workmanlike haul that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick No. 2 they get a long-term answer under center. A real need, handled.
Taking Jared Verse in the 36th pick is close to grand larceny; an edge rusher that good had no business lasting this long. A sensible fit for a spot that needed help.
Patrick Paul in the Round 2 slot is fair value, right on his grade. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Zach Frazier at No. 67, value and slot in agreement. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Circle this one: Johnny Wilson at pick 100 is a fall that decides a draft. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
The board fumbled Christian Haynes all the way to slot 102, and they scooped it up. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Ray Davis in the 141st overall pick should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A need, and now a little less of one.
Frank Gore Jr. slid further than he should have, and Round 6, Pick 6 is lovely value for the running back. Another box on the needs board, quietly ticked.
Somehow Jared Wiley was still sitting there in pick No. 223, and they pounced on premier tight end value. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
