There is reaching, and then there is Dwight McGlothern at Round 7, Pick 22. The Cowboys jumped the board by 38 and dared it to prove them wrong. The bottom line is a respectable B-.
The wide receiver spot stays a question, and it was the one they most needed an answer at. Beebe falling to them is the kind of break a good board is built to catch.
The roster is better shaped than it was, with cornerback chief among the fixes. Building through the lines is a philosophy, and they stuck to it.
Add it up and it is a good, unfussy class.
Pick-by-Pick
In pick 24 they get a problem off the edge, and a steal at that. More want than need.
Jackson Powers-Johnson at slot 56 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
A quiet steal in No. 87: Cooper Beebe for less than the market said. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Tommy Eichenberg in Round 4, Pick 25 is fair value, right on his grade. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Jaylan Ford in the 173rd pick is the kind of reach that only looks good if he outplays it. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
A clean, defensible pick in pick No. 213 with a little surplus value in Christian Jones. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
They reached a country mile for Dwight McGlothern at pick 242, and the board is aghast. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
