Thirty-one other rooms let Jaylin Simpson slide, and the Chiefs were the ones holding the card at pick 193. Highway robbery.
For all the activity, tight end went untouched, which is hard to explain. Job largely done: wide receiver settled and 5 of 8 of the wish list covered.
A tidy weekend of work that should hold up just fine.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 32nd pick they get a matchup problem out wide. Exactly the need they had to hit.
A clean, defensible pick in pick 64 with a little surplus value in Payton Wilson. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Steal is underselling it; Devontez Walker at the 95th overall pick is a heist with the alarm still ringing. This was priority one on the needs board, and now it is handled.
Jarrian Jones at Round 5, Pick 1 is neither steal nor reach, just the going rate. Useful body for a position without much behind the starter.
Walter Rouse at pick No. 167 nudges the ledger their way without any fuss. They walked in needing this and walked out with it.
Kamal Hadden in slot 173 lands just on the right side of the ledger. Depth on depth, at a spot that was hardly crying out.
Jaylin Simpson at the Round 6 slot is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. It is more luxury than necessity; they were already set here.
Zion Tupuola-Fetui slid further than he should have, and No. 230 is lovely value for the edge rusher. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
By-the-book stuff, Jalen Sundell at the 240th pick squarely in line with his ranking. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Kimani Vidal in No. 252 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A need, and now a little less of one.
