This is the pick they will still be bragging about in July: Mike Sainristil, the No. 82 name on the board, stolen at Round 4, Pick 5. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They punted on edge rusher, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. They will need Irving to outplay his draft slot in a hurry to justify it.
The trade work was a quiet net positive.
All told, a solid class that does its job everywhere but edge rusher.
Pick-by-Pick
Nothing to complain about; Brock Bowers went a shade earlier than his grade, which is fine. The roster fit checks out.
Kool-Aid McKinstry at the 37th pick is the steal of the weekend, a first-round talent at a bargain-bin price. Top of the wish list, and they did not leave without it.
They jumped the gun on Christian Haynes, taking him earlier than his grade liked. It patches a soft spot without any drama.
Bucky Irving in Round 3, Pick 15 is early enough to raise a brow, if not a full objection. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
Mike Sainristil in the Round 4 slot should not have been possible, and that is the whole point. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
Tommy Eichenberg is a better player than pick No. 142 suggests; smart patience, rewarded. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They paid sticker price for Braelon Allen in No. 155, and that is fine. It shores up a spot that genuinely needed the help.
Julian Pearl in slot 183 is exactly on the number, no argument either way. A sensible fit that makes the depth chart a little sturdier.
Jontrey Hunter at slot 226 is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the safety. Depth more than a fix, but depth they can use.
