The trade table was a mismatch, and the 49ers were on the right end of it, hauling in a fortune in surplus value. It does the job without flash, and the B+ reflects it.
They punted on quarterback, and it is the miss that keeps the grade honest. Love at that cost is the sort of edge that compounds over a roster.
They are betting the present roster is worth a lighter draft next spring. The skill positions did well by the weekend.
Solid rather than spectacular, and there is nothing wrong with that.
Pick-by-Pick
In Round 1, Pick 18 they get an every-down engine for the run game, and a steal at that. It fills the loudest need on the roster.
Kenyon Sadiq at the 26th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It plugs a real leak on the depth chart.
Gennings Dunker in slot 47 is fair value, right on his grade. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
Emmanuel McNeil-Warren slid further than he should have, and the Round 2 slot is lovely value for the safety. It thickens a room that could stand to be thicker.
Kaleb Proctor at the 139th pick is a sensible buy, a touch better than market for the interior defensive lineman. Better still, it is exactly the hole they had to fill.
A straight-up fair deal on Eli Heidenreich at pick 234, value and slot in agreement. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
