Somebody in the 87th overall pick was going to get robbed, and it turned out to be the rest of the league. The Cowboys sat still while Ja'Lynn Polk, the No. 56 name on the board, slid all the way to them, then sprinted to the podium.
They won the margins on every swap, and it adds up fast. They will regret leaving quarterback for another day if the season turns on it. Adding Michael Brockers by trade rounds out the weekend beyond the rookies.
On the needs board they went 5 of 8, with wide receiver the one that mattered most.
Bottom line, with Kool-Aid McKinstry leading the way, this is a class that should pay off fast and rarely be regretted.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 30th overall pick they get a ballhawk on the outside, outstanding value to boot. The biggest hole, addressed.
Jordan Morgan in pick 56 is the kind of fall that makes a whole class. The biggest hole on the depth chart just got a whole lot smaller.
Edgerrin Cooper in No. 73 is a bargain the rest of the room will envy. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
Ja'Lynn Polk at the Round 3 slot is daylight robbery; nobody expected him to last. That was the need underlined and circled, and now it is checked off.
Somehow Blake Fisher was still sitting there in the 124th pick, and they pounced on premier offensive lineman value. A must-fix position, and they treated it like one.
They barely believed it either: Braelon Allen still on the board at pick No. 174. One more legitimate question on the roster, answered.
They robbed the room for Kenny Logan Jr. here, a fall nobody at the table saw coming. It adds depth where they could use a little.
They stopped a slide they were happy to see, landing Nathaniel Watson in slot 245. A glaring weakness, addressed head on.
