The real work happened on the phones. The Cowboys fleeced their trade partners, turning their picks into a noticeably bigger pile than they started with. Nothing here to lose sleep over; call it a B-.
Getting Wheatley where they did is the sort of value that quietly makes a class. For all the activity, wide receiver went untouched, which is hard to explain.
The Cowboys indulged a want in Wheatley while a need in wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots stayed open.
Not a headline-grabber, but a perfectly good weekend's work.
Pick-by-Pick
In the 12th pick they get a sticky cover corner. The biggest hole, addressed.
They did well to land Michael Taaffe in pick No. 75, just ahead of his grade. Not urgent, but hardly pointless.
A surprising call. With wide receiver, offensive lineman and other spots still to address, they spent pick 112 on Zakee Wheatley, a safety they were not short of.
Domani Jackson at the 177th overall pick is a sound buy, the sort that quietly helps a class. It also answers one of the loudest questions on the roster.
They took Thaddeus Dixon at par in slot 218, which is nothing to complain about. The one spot they could not leave alone, and did not.
